Comparisons Between The Giver and Kesha

Everywhere around the world there are always people who need help or who are in pain. Both Lois Lowery from The Giver and Kesha from Praying are both experiencing troubles or hardships in their lives. These texts show a lot of emotion as to what they are going through. Kesha a broken and abused relationship in which she is trying to leave that misery part of her life, on the other hand Jonas from his community find out a few horrible secrets and found out that it leads to death,He plans to run away breaking all ties and relations from his community. One lesson that comes from both these texts is ” The pain from the past can make you stronger.”

The main Theme between these two texts is that past memories can make you stronger. Jonas had dealt with his problems by running away with the giver . Though Kesha dealt with her problems by forgiving. she had stated ” you brought the flames and put me through hell”, This quote shows that even though he had a very abusive and awful relationship she was still trying to forgive the person who had put her in this state. The main external and internal conflict for both these text are Kesha is trying to fight the pain inside her mind as well as fighting her pain outside he mind. Jonas  was fighting his memories and shocks from his mind as well as fighting his community on the outside. Between both these texts were a lot of similarities. They were both alone going through many difficulties in life. They both had really bad experiences with the outside world. Most of all they both wanted something to change in their lives. Moreover both these similarities in these texts so far mainly show a negative relations with their lives.

Even though both texts show a negative relation in their lives they both lead to differences in their lives as well. The Giver from Lois Lowery states that Jonas is dealing with his memories while Kesha is dealing with her relationship. Furthermore Jonas is receiving all his memories from the Giver while Kesha is getting her memories from her abusive relationship. These texts states the Jonas is dealing with his memories and Kesha is trying to forgive. In “Praying” Kesha has stated ” Well you were wrong and the best is yet to come/I can make it on my own / I found a strength I’ve never known.” These quotes states that even though she has gone through a lot of pain she still stands strong.

In both “The Giver and Praying” Lois Lowery and Kesha they show the importance of memories on how they can build up and become the strongest strength you have. They both had terrible experiences in  the past that had made them stronger that before.

Thematic Essay The Giver

The giver is written by Lois Lowery. The giver is a Dystopian Novel set through the future. Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is in  control. There is no fear or war. There is no pain or color. There are no choices. Every person in his community is assigned  a role. When Jonas turns 12  he has a ceremony in regarding to his arrival to play a role in his community. He receives special training from the Giver. The Giver is the only person who hold memories of sorrow and memories of the pleasure of life. One lesson that the story gives us is : ” What may be perfect can be imperfect and can be a Flawed “.

At the beginning , the description and the details of Jonas’s life .Jonas turns 12 and has a ceremony as he would be assigned a job in his community. He is assigned to be a memory receiver, and will receive special help from the Giver. He goes to a few classes with the Giver and experiences some very miraculous changes in his Life . In the beginning of the story Jonas sees that things change color or have the exact same dreams during his sleep. He had inherited this dreams on what the Giver had given him. Memories that had affected his life. Lois Lowery described ” But suddenly Jonas had noticed following the path of the  fruit had well this was the part that he couldn’t adequately understand – that the apple had changed color. This line shows how Jonas had been experiencing technical difficulties with having the same dreams over and over again. This shows that Jonas had been experiencing the memories that the Giver had given him. He was going through a lot of changes. This quote show that Jonas’s  life has made a big turn as he is developing this new side of him. After Joans ceremony he thought his world would be perfect.

In the middle ,the description describing the details of Jonas’s life. Jonas has so far been chosen as The Receiver of Memories. He has a very tight schedule to stick to and he has to make time for his family as well. He gets tired and hungry a lot. In the Middle of the story Jonas had gone to one of the giver’s lesson and the giver had given him a wisdom of memory. The had told him to close his eyes and gave him a few words of wisdom. Jonas had seen this vision “And he could see , though his eyes were closed. He could see though a bright ,whirling torrent of  crystals in the air around him , he could see them gather on the back of his hands, like cold fur. This quote shows that Jonas is developing memories that the Giver describes to him. So whenever the giver gives him a riddle or a memory he visualizes it and he has to give the Giver a word of what he is thinking .The giver will then decide whether or not he is correct. During his training Jonas’s world is turning upside down.

During the end of the story, Jonas had found out a few terrible secrets that changes his mind about living in his community. Jonas finds out that when his father releases new born babies he actually kills them ” He killed it My father Killed it” Jonas had found this out and went to the Giver , he asked him for help but the giver couldn’t do anything but help him by wisdom and memories. Jonas had then thought of running away from his community. When he realized it sooner or later his community meant death. Jonas had then decide to run away from his community he took his little new born brother Gabriel (Gabe). The giver had guided him through the path . Jonas then leaves far away from his community  with Gabe through the Cold Snow Hills and Dunes . He saw that Gabe was freezing and with all his strength he had visualized the sun and the warmth to help keep warm. Behind Jonas across the vast space and time he saw a vision from the place he had left, He thought he heard music. But perhaps it was only an echo. This shows that Jonas’s journey hasn’t ended yet ,that he has a lot more obstacles to overcome. He had finally found his new home.

As you can see , Jonas’s life has constantly been changing .At first he was living a normal Life it was perfect just the way it was. Soon he turned 12 had a ceremony .They celebrate his new arrival to play a new role in his community . Jonas assumes his life his perfect. During the middle of the story Jonas meets the Giver and goes through many engaging moment and his life slowly Turns imperfect. In the end  Jonas finds out a few horrible secrets and decides to run away . He thought his life was perfect though it was a flawed all this time.

Animal Rights !

In 1867, a popular entertainer sang “Walking through the Zoo is ok thing to do ” but a hundred years later this view has widely been disputed. This controversy has being going on for centuries linking if animals should be in captivity or not. We will discuss this argument further and see whether or not this argument should be eradicated.

In addition Zoo’s claim that by bringing people and animals together, zoos educate the public and foster an appreciation of the animals. This exposure and education motivates people to protect the animals. Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation and predators. Many zoos also have breeding programs for endangered species. In the wild, these individuals might have trouble finding mates and breeding. Reputable zoos are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and are held to high standards for the treatment of the animals. This means the zoo has been given approval from professionals. A good zoo provides an enriched habitat in which the animals are never bored, are well cared-for, and have plenty of space. Zoos are a tradition, and a visit to a zoo is a wholesome, family activity.

Moreover, seeing an animal in person is a much more personal and more memorable experience than seeing that animal in a nature documentary. Some would argue that humans have little, if any duty to non-human animals because humans are more important, and if keeping animals in zoos serves any educational or entertainment purposes, we can ethically do it.Zoos help rehabilitate wildlife and take in exotic pets that people no longer want or are no longer able to care for. Both accredited and unaccredited animal exhibitors are regulated by the federal Animal Welfare Act, which establishes standards for care. “In every good zoo, the animal does not feel a prisoner,” says Professor Hedinger of Zurich Zoo. “As in the wild, it is more like a tenant, or owner of a piece of land.”

Furthermore , from an animal rights standpoint, we do not have a right to breed, capture and confine other animals, even if they are endangered. Being a member of an endangered species doesn’t mean the individual animals have fewer rights. Animals in captivity suffer from stress, boredom and confinement. Intergenerational bonds are broken when individuals get sold or traded to other zoos, and no pen or even drive-through safari can compare to the freedom of the wild. Baby animals bring in visitors and money, but this incentive to breed new baby animals leads to overpopulation. Surplus animals are sold not only to other zoos, but also to circusescanned hunting facilities, and even for slaughter. The vast majority of captive breeding programs do not release animals back into the wild. The offspring are forever part of the chain of zoos, circuses, petting zoos, and exotic pet trade that buy, sell and barter animals among themselves and exploit animals. Ned the Asian elephant was born at an accredited zoo, but later confiscated from an abusive circus trainer and finally sent to a sanctuary. Stephen Ormarod of the RSPCA says that, “Many Zoo owner are Ignorant and selfish of their animal’s needs .

Bystanders agree that by removing individuals from the wild will further endanger the wild population because the remaining individuals will be less genetically diverse and will have more difficulty finding mates. If people want to see wild animals in real life, they can observe wildlife in the wild or visit a sanctuary. A true sanctuary does not buy, sell, or breed animals, but takes in unwanted exotic pets, surplus animals from zoos or injured wildlife that can no longer survive in the wild. If zoos are teaching children anything, it’s that imprisoning animals for our own entertainment is acceptable. At least one study has shown that elephants kept in zoos do not live as long as elephants in the wild. The federal Animal Welfare Act establishes only the most minimal standards for cage size, shelter, health care, ventilation, fencing, food and water. For example, enclosures must provide “sufficient space to allow each animal to make normal postural and social adjustments with adequate freedom of movement. Inadequate space may be indicated by evidence of malnutrition, poor condition, debility, stress, or abnormal behavior patterns.” Violations often result in a slap on the wrist and the exhibitor is given a deadline to correct the violation. Animals sometimes escape their enclosures, endangering themselves as well as people. There have even been incidents of zoo animals eating other zoo animals.

In conclusion, By removing animals from the wild will make them less genetic and will leave them inspirited and lonely. This also leaves the animal in an ill condition which would cause them to die. However many people have care for the animals and want them to live an enjoyable life with laughter and care. The decision is yours to make the fate of the animals tears and happiness rest beneath yours palms.

SSR + Reflection Letter

Dear Mr Hoering,

The book that I had read was Nancy Drew Detective Girl. The book was written by Carolyn Keene. The book is about a girl who is a detective and here friends who were vacationing in San Francisco when out of nowhere two couples had shown up with a mystery in their hands. It was up to Nancy and her friends to solve the mystery. In the book the one character that I liked was Nancy because she was daring I chose this word because she battled a shark and nearly fell of a cliff. The other books I have read so far are mission books and sad books happiness books etc… If I was to compare them to the book that I was reading I would still choose Nancy Drew, because I love Mystery books and Mystery makes my Spine tingle. I would recommend this book to a friend because you never know whats gonna happen next when you turn the page. While I was reading the book I did feel a change in my interest to more mystery books and horror books which had brought me the feeling of watching horror movies so now I a lot of horror movies. This surprises me a lot because I used to hate horror movies a lot I would get a lot of bad dreams but now I am used to it and I love them.Something I find really surprising is that I am noticing a lot of different actions towards reading books because i was never a fan of reading books so I used to pretend to read them but now I love them and I never want to stop reading them. During the last month I have reached my reading goals I have reached to reading 15 National Geographic and I read these books  because they give me knowledge of the world and knowledge around the world that I have never seen or heard of.So I love reading them too.

Thanks you for Reading

I Am A Reader

The last book that i read was Black Beauty it was written by Anna Swell. The book was based on a horse’s life of how he grew up and how he was gentle and kind to all of his owners no matter how cruel or kind they were. The reason I like this book is because of the horse’s generosity and honesty he was all taught of this at a young age by his mother. His mother told him not to be reckless and cruel to any of your owner or to fight any other horse’s.The book that I had got from the library was Nancy Drew girl detective it was written by Carolyn Keene. I chose this book because I love mystery books.  While I was reading the blurb i found out it is a girl detective vacationing in San Francisco until an unsuspected couple show up and put them in a mystery case to solve
